Why Child Accounts Matter
The internet can be an incredible resource for kids — a place to learn, connect, and grow. But without the right guardrails, it can also expose them to risks that no parent wants to worry about. That's why Kind Social built Child Accounts directly into our Safety Center — giving parents real control over how their children experience the platform, with protections that evolve as kids grow up.
Child accounts aren't just "restricted logins." They're fully managed identities with age-appropriate safety features, activity monitoring, and time controls — all designed to let kids enjoy Kind Social while keeping parents informed and in charge.
Three Account Types, Tailored by Age
When you create a child account, you start by entering your child's date of birth. Kind Social automatically determines which of three account types applies, each with its own set of protections:
🟢 Young Adult (Ages 16–17)
Young adults are nearly independent but still benefit from parental oversight:
- Own password — Your teen manages their own login credentials
- Full site access — They can use every feature on Kind Social, including advice, chat rooms, and creative tools
- 30-day activity review — Parents can review recent activity including new friendships, messages, and any flagged interactions
- Time & schedule controls — Set daily usage limits and restrict access to specific hours or days
- Temporary disable — Instantly pause the account when needed
🟡 Teen (Ages 13–15)
Teens get most of the platform but with important financial safeguards:
- Own password — Teens manage their own credentials
- No earning money — Cannot create vendor accounts, offer paid consultations, or sell artwork. If they try, they'll see a friendly message asking them to check with their parents
- 30-day activity review — Full parental visibility into recent activity
- Time & schedule controls — Set daily usage limits and restrict access to specific hours or days
- Temporary disable — Instantly pause the account when needed
🔴 Minor (Under 13)
The youngest users receive the highest level of protection:
- Parent-managed password — Only the parent can set or change the password
- Image sharing blocked — No sending or receiving images through messages
- Restricted access — No access to the Advice section or adult-only chat rooms
- Friend request approval — Every incoming and outgoing friend request requires parental approval before it goes through
- No earning money — All monetization features are completely blocked
- 30-day activity review — Full parental visibility into all activity
- Time & schedule controls — Set daily usage limits and restrict access to specific hours or days
- Temporary disable — Instantly pause the account when needed
Parental Controls in Detail
Activity Monitoring
Every child account gives parents a rolling 30-day view of their child's activity. You can see:
- New friendships formed
- Any flagged or risky interactions
- Low kindness score interactions
- Attempts to access restricted features
Time & Schedule Limits
One of the most requested features from parents: granular time controls. For any child account type, you can:
- Set a daily time limit — Choose how many minutes per day your child can use the platform (e.g., 60 minutes on school days, 120 on weekends)
- Restrict allowed hours — Block access outside specific times (e.g., only allow usage between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM)
- Block specific days — Disable access entirely on certain days of the week (e.g., no access on Sundays or during school days)
Temporary Account Disable
Sometimes you need to pause access quickly — maybe during exam week, as a consequence, or just to enforce a digital detox. Every child account has a simple Active/Inactive toggle right on the dashboard. Flip it off, and the account is immediately disabled. Flip it back on when you're ready.
Friend Request Approval (Minors)
For children under 13, every friend request — both incoming and outgoing — lands in a Pending Friend Approvals queue that only the parent can see. You can approve or deny each request individually, giving you full control over who your child connects with online.
Automatic Independence at 18
Child accounts aren't forever. When your child turns 18, their account automatically transitions to a standard independent account. They keep all their friends, content, and history — but parental oversight features are removed. It's a seamless graduation that respects both the parent's role and the young adult's growing independence.

Built for Families, Designed for Trust
At Kind Social, we believe that online safety isn't about locking kids out — it's about creating an environment where they can explore, connect, and grow with appropriate protections in place. Child accounts give parents the tools they need to feel confident, while giving kids the freedom to enjoy a platform built on kindness.
